Unveiling the Enigmatic Herzegovina Wine Route: A Mediterranean Delight

The captivating journey through the Balkan wine region continued as esteemed journalists embarked on the second day of the press trip, this time exploring the hidden side of the Mediterranean through the enchanting Herzegovina Wine Route. With its rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and exceptional wines, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s wine region of Herzegovina beckoned the curious palates of our intrepid journalists.

The day began with an early morning flight from Belgrade to Podgorica, Montenegro, followed by a scenic bus drive to the charming city of Trebinje in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This picturesque town, nestled amidst verdant vineyards and rolling hills, set the stage for a day filled with discovery and indulgence.

To start, the journalists went to the revered Tvrdos Monastery, where they had the opportunity to explore the sacred grounds and indulge in a captivating wine-tasting session in the monastery wine cellar. The tranquil surroundings of the monastery and the backdrop of rain pitter-pattering on the stone served as the perfect backdrop to savour the divine flavours of the wines produced by the monks, creating an unforgettable sensory experience.

The culinary delights of Herzegovina awaited at Vukoje Wine Gallery, a renowned establishment known for its exquisite wines and gastronomic delights. Here, the journalists indulged in a delightful lunch, savouring the flavours of the Mediterranean while being immersed in the warm hospitality that epitomizes the region. Accompanying the lunch were several bottles of Vukoje wine, paired to perfection with the food. 

The journey continued to Anđelić Winery, a hidden gem nestled amidst the rolling hills of Herzegovina. This family-owned winery captivated the journalists with its dedication to traditional winemaking techniques and the production of exceptional wines. The wine-tasting experience offered a journey through the region’s terroir, showcasing the unique characteristics that make Herzegovina wines truly distinctive.

As the day unfolded, the journalists embarked on a captivating city tour and picturesque sightseeing of the river Trebisnjica, immersing themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the local market and exploring the cultural treasures of Herceg House. To conclude the day’s adventures, a memorable dinner awaited at a rural household, where the journalists were introduced to the authentic flavours of local cuisine accompanied by traditional music.
