Montenegro WINE REGIONS
Montenegro boasts a rich history of grapevine cultivation and wine production, dating back to the pre-Roman era. Today, the wine sector in Montenegro is largely dominated by the state-owned company Plantaže, which produces 90% of the country’s total wine production. Plantaže
holds the distinction of having the largest vineyard in Europe in a single complex, spanning over 2,300 hectares and located just 30 kilometers from the Adriatic Sea, adjacent to Lake Skadar. Despite the prominence of Plantaže, there is also a growing presence of family-owned wineries in Montenegro. These boutique wineries are emerging with the aim of catering to the hospitality, restaurant, and catering (HORECA) sector along the Adriatic coast. These wineries are focused on producing easy-drinking wines, including whites, rosés, and light reds, to cater to the growing demand of tourists during the summer season.
